Lomachenko will fight Haney vs. Kambosos II winner says Eddie Hearn
By Sean Jones: WBC mandatory challenger Vasyl Lomachenko will be fighting the winner of the October rematch between undisputed lightweight champion Devin Haney and George Kambosos Jr, according to Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn.
Lomachenko (16-2, 11 KOs) is back from the war and intends to fight no later than October, per Top Rank president Todd Duboef.
As the mandatory to Haney’s World Boxing Council 135-lb belt, Lomachenko could activate that now and force a title shot in October ahead of Kambosos.
The Australian probably won’t like getting in line behind Lomachenko for his rematch with Haney, but he’d have to live with it.
Haney won’t want to give up his WBC title if the sanctioning body orders him to defend it against his mandatory Lomachenko.
If you’re Kambosos, it will help him to delay taking the rematch with Haney (28-0, 15 KOs) because he needs to put in a lot of work to make improvements in his game from the way he looked in his one-sided loss last month on June 5th.
In the meantime, Lomachenko can fight Haney for the undisputed championship, and the boxing world can see an entertaining fight for a change. Kambosos can take a tune-up and then battle the last man standing between Haney and Loma.
It would be nice for Kambosos to be a team player and voluntarily step aside for the good of the sport to let Lomachenko challenge Haney for his straps.
Kambosos could then fight the winner of that clash, which will likely be Loma, and he’ll get the guy he wanted all along. If Sean Jones was in Kambosos’ shoes, that’s what he’d do. He’d step aside, let Lomachenko take on Haney, and then fight the winner for all the glory.
“I think Devin Haney is rematching George Kambosos in October, and I guess Lomachenko will fight the winner of that fight,” said Eddie Hearn to Intu Boxing when asked if Vasily Lomachenko will face George Kambosos Jr next.
“I expect to Devin Haney move up soon in weight, but Lomachenko is a problem for all those guys.
“Yes, a couple of times,” said Hearn when asked if he’s spoken to Haney lately. “I’m over the moon for him. Obviously, we’d rather have been in his corner, but it wasn’t to be. He achieved a dream to become undisputed, and we’re really proud of him,” said Hearn.
Per @ToddDuboef at @trboxing @VasylLomachenko has contacted the company and wants a fight as soon as October. He’s been participating in the war, defending his native Ukraine against the Russian invasion. No opponents discussed at this point. #Loma

It must be frustrating for Hearn not to be involved in Haney’s next fight against Kambosos or Lomachenko. The Kambosos fight will be another mismatch, but it’ll still be entertaining with all the self-promoting the little “Emperor” does in the build-up to that match.
